# Data Limits

What is more challenging: having too much data or not enough? For me, having too much data is often more problematic. It creates a sense that the correct answer is already within the data. Instead of trying to solve a problem, you are only looking for the buried solution. You are stuck searching for the needle in the haystack. Endlessly looking for that nugget of correctness, but never knowing when or if you'll find it in the growing data pile.
If you don't have enough data, you must think beyond what is in front of you. You explore what might be possible, what is critical, what additional work is needed, and how to get there. As an analyst, it may seem dangerous to work on a problem without enough data. However, this is only true if you believe that analysts have data limits. There is much more to analysis than just computing statistics.
Good analysts are limited by data. Great analysts are limited by their imagination.
