There is a great deal of attention given to organizational culture. Almost no attention is given to organizational ideology. There could be a variety of reasons for this. It could be that organizational culture is significantly more important than organizational ideology. Perhaps organizational culture is more amenable to observation and study. Or, it could be that organizational ideology doesn’t vary much, so it doesn’t function as a variable. More critically, perhaps efforts are made to divert our attention away from organizational ideology. Whatever the reason, simply noting the difference in attention between culture and ideology is useful. Organizational culture, after all the study and attention, remains elusive. Perhaps the secrets of organizational culture can be revealed through an interrogation of organizational ideology.
