# Controlling an Organizational Entity

Is it easier to turn an organization around or start a new one? This is the question for every individual with aspirations of achieving something significant via organizational systems. As one climbs the ranks, one may think they can turn an organization around. But, once they reach the top, they are likely to find this thing called an organization that one is said to manage and lead has a mind of its own. Instead of one leading the organization, one discovers it is entirely leading and operating entirely independently. One is merely a piece to do the organization's bidding. For those who recognize this, the twist is straight out of an episode of the Twilight Zone. However, many never see this. Instead, they view it as a failure of their leadership or capabilities. While one may undoubtedly nudge the organization, it will only take it under consideration and move slightly. The odds of any individual changing an organization of substance is virtually zero. As individuals, we think of ourselves as the center of our universe. We see individuals as the most critical unit within social systems, but we are merely the cells within the organization's body. It's interesting that humans classify things all the time at different hierarchy levels but fail to do so when tackling social systems. Organizations are individuals with their own minds and operating principles. A cell attempting to change the entire body is almost always fruitless. Instead, one should focus on creating a new organization and hope it will behave as one wishes. But always remember, it will quickly develop a mind of its own, and one will soon lose control.
