# Coding is Dying

Within months, the idea of writing code will be a thing of the past for almost everyone. AI models will and likely already be better than 99% of all humans at writing code. There will always be some need for people to write code, but this will be reserved for the brilliantly creative or nostalgic for the good old days. This will rock the STEM world. All this time, teaching people to code to help them get jobs will seem like a massive waste. And for the most part, it will have been an enormous waste, and most will struggle to figure out what is next. Most teachers and professors in these fields won't know what to teach or test people because AI will simply be how to write, evaluate, and debug code faster and more efficiently than anything else. These courses will be akin to learning how to sharpen a stick with a knife when you already have a knife. There is simply no need for the sharpened stick. However, not all is lost for those who have learned to think analytically and solve problems. While AI is and will be better at generating code, it is what all programs should pivot to, figuring out what to do and why to do it. Many will say, "But we already do that, and we have a 5 step process we teach all our students." That's bullshit. Following a process is hardly thinking and solving problems. It takes time, energy, and effort beyond the five-step process. It requires learning about odd things, reading, writing, and experiencing life. It requires asking questions that have no answers. It requires confronting the paradoxes and learning to revel in them. It is not teaching to the test or following procedures. Ironically, STEM has created its downfall by being too into STEM. AI comes from STEM, and STEM advocates that everyone can do it if they follow this process. This is snake oil. STEM fields are valuable, but most of the industrialized education around it is horseshit and will destroy the lives of many within the coming years.
