# Claiming to Be the Best By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-05-06 There is an interesting phenomenon related to organizations and sometimes countries claiming to be the best. What does such a comment mean? An analyst might ask the “in terms of what” question. When the question is asked, the people claiming to be part of the best organization might look dumbfounded. The answer is obvious; everything (either individually or in the aggregate). If pressed further in terms of sales, or revenue, or freedom, or per capita income, etc. one quickly finds that one isn’t the best in anything. It would be an interesting analytic model in which one of the observations was the 8th best in one category, 12th in another, and 17th in the last, but came out to be best overall. More likely, people like to feel like winners, and rather than do the hard work associated with being the best, it is easier to simply claim that one is the best. More problematic is that a group so focused on claiming to be the best seldom has what it takes to be the best. No worries, there is no barrier to claiming to be the best. Relax and enjoy!
