# Bored and Overwhelmed By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-06-26 Working is a mix of boredom and being overwhelmed. These states can extend for days, months, or years or revert back and forth from moment to moment. Each complicates one’s ability to find fulfillment and enjoyment in one’s work. Boredom results in detachment and disinterest in the task, and being overwhelmed directs attention away from the task itself. Focus can help, but it must be directed toward how one can best engage with the task. If boredom emerges when a task is routine and easy and is overwhelmed when a task is novel and hard, there is a relatively small space between the two. If the task is routine and easy, focus can be given to refinement and perfection. If the task is novel, focus can be given to development and learning. Each offers something potentially fulfilling. One’s experience of a task is in part the task and in part the person. #### Related Items [[Work]] [[Boredom]] [[Learning]] [[Focus]] [[Routine]] [[Overwhelmed]]
