# Beware of Career Executives

Never be surprised how little executives understand how the business works. One may think they know a lot, and a few do, but most only speak with uninformed authority. This aids them in tricking most people that they know what they are talking about. Their positional power within the organization only cements it further. Who is one to question their knowledge, experience, and insights? After all, they are in charge, can access whatever information they want, and speak informatively. In reality, any executive rarely knows how things work. If they did, they wouldn't be in their position. They would become consultants, entrepreneurs, or analysts. Knowing and understanding how real things work gives one a distinct advantage beyond simply climbing the executive ladder. By many accounts, the return on investment is much greater in other occupations than climbing the corporate ladder when one factors time, stress, and work-life balance. The one thing that most executives do understand is how to manipulate and play the organizational game. This requires no knowledge about anything tangible other than manipulating organizations and people. So, be skeptical of career executives. They know very little but think or act like they know everything.
