With the advent of GPS, people will likely get lost less often. One can look at a map and know, at least generally, where one is. Also, multiple routes can be provided from where one is currently to where one wants to go. One has information. One has options. Before these technological advancements, people got lost. People would look for some indications as to where one is at. The location of the sun can provide some context. The height of buildings could provide additional context. All these things combine to give one an idea of where one is. With that information, one can make some informed decisions. One would go from being lost to figuring it out. Eventually, one would end up where one was going. Being lost, looking for clues, and figuring it out was useful. One learns to reason through things and develops the ability to think during stressful situations. People have decreasing opportunities to develop this ability. In some ways, this is good. Life is becoming easier. In some ways, this is bad. Life is becoming less of an adventure. There is less opportunity to engage with uncertainty and take inference-based actions. Being lost is often beneficial. Sometimes, turn off the GPS, explore, and see what awaits.
