# Awakening to Change By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2024-12-25 When young, one tends to think of things in absolutes and never change. This is partly due to how the younger experience time. As everything is new, time seems to go slower. Every moment is a unique experience that heightens one's awareness of the present. As one experiences time slowly, things one already knows stay the same for a much longer time. Traditions, grandparents, pets, and friends are the same and never change much when one is younger. However, as one ages, time accelerates as we pay less attention to it and things around us. Eventually, we'll wake up one day and see that much has changed that we thought never would. Grandparents pass away, our friends change, and traditions and systems seem worn out. How did one get to this point where everything we thought was true and absolute is suddenly and radically different? It's as if one has awoken to a brand new world that looks familiar but is decidedly different. This breakdown and transition is common. One discovers one is no longer young and that one's time is closer to ending than ever before. This relative change in time marks not the end but the beginning of discovering new relationships with how things are today. Many fail this transition. Those who succeed find that some of what is old becomes new, and the status quo no longer exists for any purpose. #### Related Items [[Change]] [[Time]] [[Age]] [[Status Quo]] [[Transitions]]
