# Apocalypse Tomorrow

The end is near! Every generation has its subset that is focused on an impending cataclysm. So far, each generation has been wrong. Eventually, it won’t be. The end will come. If not for the entire world, at least for everyone inhabiting it. So what? Collectively and abstractly, what does it matter if humanity persists? Are we special enough that our extension represents a great loss as a species? Maybe. On an individual level, it is much more meaningful. There are those we love and care about. There are those whose company we thoroughly enjoy. Hopefully, we are each engaged in the project of our own lives, and we seek to accomplish more. Not because accomplishments will matter much in the grand scheme of things but because accomplishments make us feel alive and bring us joy. If there is something you wish to accomplish, do it. Do it fast. If tomorrow’s apocalypse doesn’t arrive, the next worse thing probably will. Much time is wasted under the belief that one has a nearly infinite number of tomorrows. We don’t. Finding a worthy effort towards which one can dedicate is a source of meaning, even when it is ultimately pointless.
