# Analytics as Organizational Counterculture By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2023-04-23 A counterculture might be defined as any way of being that is contrary to established norms. In the 1960s, hippies were a visible counterculture in the United States. One of their credos was “Don’t trust anyone over 30.” There are various rationales for that position. A person over 30 might have been an agent provocateur sent by the government to infiltrate the organization. Or a person over 30 might simply have been part of the establishment. Countercultures, because they represent an existential threat to established regimes of power are targets for intrusion, disruption, and de-legitimation. It is interesting to posit that analytics is an organizational counterculture. It exists outside the norms of the organization. It has autonomy and knowledge. It can critique what those in power do. It attempts to establish something better than what currently exists. Of course, analytics can be applied to bolster the status quo, but at its best, analytics is part of an ongoing countercultural revolution. #### Related Items [[Analytics]] [[Counterculture]] [[Organizational Analytics]] [[Status Quo]] [[Knowledge]]
