# Analytics Twilight By:: [[Ross Jackson]] 2025-01-18 Esoteric knowledge is specialized and understood only by a small number of people. Until recently, analytics has been esoteric. Outsiders potentially saw value in analysis, but most could not conduct analysis. With the advent and widespread dispersion of AI-generative chatbots, this is changing. In a sense, this is good. Analysis will become more democratic, as opposed to being elitist. The means of production will be available to most. In short, there will be fewer barriers if one wants to conduct an analysis. This is the analytic twilight. Just as social media has diminished the notion of celebrity, blurring the line between stars and suburbanites, the ubiquity of analytic capabilities will erode its social currency. When everyone can analyze everything, no one will care. When analysis was specialized and expensive, it made its application rare. What was being analyzed was considered so vital that it was worth allocating the resources required to analyze it. Once it was analyzed, it was important because it had been analyzed. Investments are commitments. In the impending analytic twilight, there will be almost no investment and, therefore, practically no commitment. The ratio of impactful analysis to total analysis conducted will decline. As it does, people will see less value in it. Analysis will be everywhere and have almost no effect. Analysts should be among the first to see this and understand its consequences. Those who do will focus on developing skills that will continue to be valued. In the analytic twilight, critical thinking will become increasingly valuable, as will understanding. Analytic twilight is upon us. Now is the time for greater solidarity among those who think critically about what to do next. #### Related Items [[Analytics]] [[Thinking]] [[Predictions]] [[Future]] [[Knowledge]] [[Solidarity]]
