# Ambitious experimentation

In video games, ambitious jumps take practice. The player has to press the right combination of buttons on the controller at precisely the correct moment and then release them at an equally precise moment. The player typically “dies” several times before finally successfully making the leap. However, each time the player “dies,” the game begins again; there are no real consequences for repeatedly failing in the quest for success. No matter how many attempts it takes to successfully stick the landing, when the jump is eventually successful, the player is rewarded by moving on to the next feat in the game.
So often in the business world, employees are encouraged to take big leaps, but the business does not have an appetite for repeated failures on the road to success. How different would innovation within a business be if employees were allowed to experiment without fear of failure?
