# All action, no progress

Most people think of progress as a movement forward. Whether in business or in life, this implies two things: change and action. Naturally moving forward requires some sort of action and that action may result in things being different. Action and change are easy for us to see. A person planning a meeting, sending an email, or making a call are all actions one could attribute to progress. Similarly, an increase in sales or revenue are changes that could also be attributed to progress. However, action and changes are only indicators of progress, not progress itself. Progress requires a [[value]] judgment while action and change just are what they are - no better, no worse.
Measuring action and change to claim a progress victory is a shallow gesture, yet this is the hallmark of most management and self-improvement practices today. Perhaps you've been a part of a celebration where 6 out of 6 tasks were completed but was there actual progress? Did it make a value difference at all? If it did, fantastic! If it didn't, then why do it? For a job, it might just be for the paycheck, but then you must ask yourself: Is the paycheck helping you progress as an individual, as a person?
In business and in [[life]], are you simply measuring action and change or are you progressing? Only you can decide.
