# All Sales and No Product

What makes for a “good” salesperson? Any answer hinges on the definition of good. Some might say a person who can sell anything to anybody is a good salesperson. Perhaps a more nuanced definition is that a good salesperson can efficiently match potential clients with products that meet their needs. Some focus on selling products that do not exist. Maybe the salesperson believes the organization will develop the product before the scheduled delivery. Maybe the salesperson is full of shit. It’s difficult to know what one believes and nearly impossible to ascertain what another person believes. In the end, it doesn’t really matter. A salesperson who is all sales and no product is a huckster. Beware of hucksters. If one is committed to excellence in any discipline, a huckster will make the task of producing more difficult. They will sell a disjointed set of requirements to disparate customers and then expect the final product to integrate all the requirements magically. Or worse, they will keep looking for new customers to sell a nonexistent product. One might make money from all sales with no product, but one will never succeed.
