# A Wise Analytics Strategy By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2022-09-25 If positioned and staffed correctly, analytics can be one of the most valuable strategies for senior leaders. The value does not necessarily come from the analysis itself. It comes from the integrated organizational [[intelligence]] that the analytics function naturally collects, optimizes, and disseminates. Sales care about achieving sales [[goals]], Finance cares about financial goals, and Inventory cares about inventory goals. However, Analytics cares about analysis, thinking, and better decisions. A wise leader doesn't place Analytics within these typical organizational functions because it constrains the analysis. Local improvements have limited value to the wise leader. Instead, a wise leader places analysis to exist between and within all of the functions. This allows for local and global improvements. In this way, analysis can become both a source of collective intelligence for these leaders and an agent of continuous global improvement. No other function is better suited to helping senior leaders achieve better organizational outcomes. Placing a customer service representative within and between every function may improve the culture of customer service within the company, but it lacks the intention, capability, and dynamism to deliver outcomes beyond customer service. Conversely, Analytics is naturally driven towards the betterment of all things and it has the ability [[The Organizational Othering of Analytics|to think it through with organizational context]]. No other business function is naturally driven this way. Analysts intuitively seek out improvements and value themselves based on the changes they help the organization make to be better. A wise leader who embraces this strategy and makes analytics an intentional [[choice]] can unlock the power of analytics.
