# A Seat at the Table By:: [[Brian Heath]] 2022-09-15 Finding insights is a challenging and uncertain task. Simply put, they wouldn't be insights if they were easy to discover. Yet, it is common for the business to task analysts with finding these insights within a short time window and with little context. If an analyst is to find interesting insights, then sufficient time and [[energy]] must be dedicated to that task and the analyst needs to be intimately aware of the operations of the business. This means that they need to be inside strategic, operational, and tactical business [[discussions]]. Having a full picture enables the analyst to know where to search for insights and what those insights look like. Analysis is much more than sifting through data with magical insights appearing out of thin air. It is exploring the system in detail to discover its essential qualities. This cannot be easily time boxed nor can it be done if part of the system is hidden from the analyst. Analysts need to have a seat at the table and be given the time to explore if the business wants to unlock insights and leverage analysis to its full potential. Anything less is a recipe for disappointment for both the analyst and the business. #### Related Items [[Analytics]] [[Organizational Analytics]] [[Business]] [[Insights]] [[An Interestingly Inefficient Workforce]]
